The National Health Service is the United Kingdom's largest employer, with 1.3 million staff treating over 3 million patients every week. There are more than 300 careers available to employees of the NHS, divided into the following categories:

  • Allied Health Care Professionals - for example physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychologists and speech therapists - who work with patients, often on a one to one basis, providing treatment and rehabilitation.

  • Management - the NHS requires many expert and experienced managers to ensure the delivery of a thoroughly effective and professional 21st century NHS.
  • Midwifery - the provision of care, advice and treatment for pregnant women and new mothers.
  • Nursing - nurses are seen by many as the backbone of the NHS. Nurses work throughout the NHS providing expert care and treatment. Top class training and development for NHS nurses is essential for a successful health service.
